Down w/ Voivod & Danava

Posted by JRPhotography on August 10, 2009

Down @ MacEwan Ballroom Aug 8/09.

Well this show was originally to be in MacEwan Hall which is about twice the size of the Ballroom. Danavan have a real heavy rock sound and were received well by the audiance. there set consisted of about 8 songs and lasted about 30 minutes. Voivod came out next and gave an awsome performance. I saw them last year at Monsters of Rock and wasn’t to impressed with their show. This time was much better and on top of it it was Snakes birthday. Jason still isn’t playing live with them but is reconized as a member and was invloved in the recording of their latest album.

I was to see Down in 2007 with Heaven & Hell but they canceled due to illness. This time Rex was not able to make the tour so they had a friend of the band playing bass. The show is extremely intense and doesn’t really have any stoppage from start to finish. Their set was about an hour and half and consist of all their hits. At one point they did comment on moving to the smaller venue but I’m sure the crowd apprieciated that they still played their show.

Custom picks,

Danava: None

Voivod: I believe they have had them but not this show

Down: Custom InTune

Note: This is a very good show to let lose at…

Blink 182 w/ Fall Out Boy & All American Rejects

Posted by JRPhotography on August 5, 2009

Blink 182 @ the Saddledome July 30/09. Well lets just say I was only at this show for Blink! All American Rejects suite their name perfectly. The lead singer comes out all covered in some kind of red sparkly crap doing his best superstar interpretation. Kind of reminds me of Bucksherry’s lead singer but 100 times more annoying. Also, their stage Left guitarist needs to put tape over his mouth with the amount of spit he put into the crowd, Just Grouse.

Fall Out Boy were next up. I really don’t have anything to say other than SHUT UP AND PLAY! Dude on bass needs to keep his mouth shut. The majority of the crowd seemed to enjoy their music but in between songs I have never seen a single performer have as much stuff thrown at him as the bass player from this band (I do know his name I just refuse to use it).

Blink 182 were F’n amazing. These guys come out hard and carry it the entire performance. This was one of those acts I didn’t think I would ever get to see and now wish I could see them again with a much better line up of openers. Again, Blink put together a great collaboration of songs spread across all their albums. During the encore, Travis gets his  moment up front with an amazing drum solo including some cool rigging to lift him into the air. The set lasted over an hour and a half and I’m sure no one left disappointed.

Custom Picks,

All American Rejects: InTune customs

Fall Out Boy: didn’t see any (Dunlop maybe)

Blink 182: Dunlop Customs

Note:  If your not into AAR or FOB feel free to miss their sets!
