Propagandhi w/ The Rebel Spell, Passenger Action & DFA
Posted by firejackel on October 26, 2009
Propagandhi @ Starlight Room Oct 24/09. Well I was under the impression that The Rebel Spell was the only opener was surprised to find out their were 2 more bands. DFA are a local Edmonton group with a fairly decent sound. They about a 30 minute set and were able to get through probably about 10 songs. Passenger Action again is a local group with a very similar sound as propagandhi. They also had about 30 minutes and played around 10 songs. The Rebel Spell, from East Vancouver, have a great Punk/Hardcore sound. They had about a 45 minute set including about 12 songs.
First off I just got to say why… Why would you come to a city which is a leader in the production of Oil and Gas in Canada and preach about how bad it is for the environment and then continue on about Corprate companies and banks? All that aside, This show was great. I was only recently introduced to their music and think it is quite good. The friend who introduced me has been listening to them for 15+ years and is a pretty big fan. Propagandhi played about 15 songs over a period of about an hour and a half. This was really late show and didn’t end till 2 am.
Custom Picks:
DFA: None
Passenger Action: None
The Rebel Spell: Not sure??
Propagandhi: Not that I saw
Note: Be prepared for some stupid preaching from Green Peace before Propagandhi plays…

Collective Soul w/ Crash Parallel
Posted by firejackel on October 20, 2009
Collective Soul @ Flames Central Oct 19/09. Crash Parallel were a good choice as an opener. A fairly decent Canadian Band with a good rock sound. Found that only about 50 % of the crowd was into them. Their set lasted about 35 minutes.
Collective Soul seem to come to Calgary alot and even made note of it during the show. This is the one and only time I plan to see them and I think I got my money’s worth. They stuck to their usual from what I’m told, playing a few new songs here and ther but generally play their older hits. They had about an hour and a half set with about 16 or so songs.
Custom Picks,
Crash Parallel: none
Collective Soul: customs
Note: Decent show from any location
